Josiane, Arhaus NYC Interior Designer, shares the essentials of creating a holiday tablescape.
Whenever I think of setting the table for the Holidays, it reminds me of my parents who entrusted me with this task. Being the oldest of six, it was my job to lead my siblings in making sure the table was ready. I didn’t enjoy the management part, but creating a new tablescape every year was fun!
This is a joy I carry with me to this day. When creating a tablescape, I let the design elements of the table inspire me. The Bell’Arte Collection inspires me to use traditional, elegant and timeless décor, while the Acero table inspires me to use more eclectic and modern pieces.
Key elements to a holiday tablescape:
Introduce the theme through your centerpiece. Add candleholders of varying heights to add visual interest. Make sure to leave open spaces throughout the table so that your dinner guests can see the person across from them.
Dinnerware and flatware help set the tone. For example, use flatware with intricate detailing for a formal look. Or choose something sleek, such as our Kent flatware for a casual feel.
Get creative! I used our Pasaro Bird tea light holders as name card holders and attached faux fur stockings to the backs of each chair. The possibilities are endless!
Set the mood
Utilize candles! A variety of small, medium and large unscented taper candles, add mood to the table without mixing scent with the food’s aroma. Save those scented ones, like our Retreat tobacco Amber or wild fig tree hand blown candles, for the entryway or living room.
