Fact: Relocating can be one of the most exciting, yet daunting home experiences homeowners have to go through.
Luckily for Denise, relocating meant moving closer to her family and into a beautiful waterfront home in Toms River, NJ. Moving into an empty house with only a few pieces of furniture can be overwhelming and easily discouraging for most, which is one of the many reasons we offer complimentary Interior Design services at Arhaus—offering our expert advice to help make the home design process less stressful and more enjoyable.
Josiane Raphael, Arhaus NYC Interior Designer, accepted this design opportunity with grace, excited to design the living room, dining room, master bedroom and loft of this gorgeous home. Josiane was able to build off a few preexisting Arhaus collection items, like our Baumann console and our Emory sectional.

What was the inspiration for this project?
Since the home overlooks water, I pulled inspiration from the ocean—feelings of tranquility, relaxation, and serenity—while keeping in mind the family’s lifestyle and needs. We custom upholstered the Tahoe sectional in Aliz Cream, a subtle coastal pattern, to break up the white tones and add dimension. At first thought, some may be afraid to choose a pattern fabric for their sectional, as it’s a large piece in the room. But since the color is neutral and the repeat is simple, it’s recognized as more of a texture in the space. We custom designed a few other pieces in this project like the Cecilia dining chairs, and the Bowan chair, to fit the design aesthetic and family needs.
Which room was your favorite to design?
The loft was one of my favorite spaces to design in the home. The view is absolutely stunning! Creating a space for my client and her family to relax was my primary goal for this room. We custom-configured a Remington sectional with a double chaise. Knowing that the loft was going to be a frequently occupied area, we chose Trek Dove, a durable poly blend fabric to ensure longevity.
What is your favorite design element in this project?
The 7 piece Tahoe sectional in Aliz Cream is one of my favorite features in the home. It’s gorgeous, it sets the tone for the space, and it creates a clean, cozy look that complements the other coastal elements throughout the home.
What’s one part of this design that reflects your personal style?
One thing I enjoy doing with open floor plans is to create distinct areas using area rugs that visually break up the space. You can see we applied this design element throughout the home. To me, this helps create continuity as rugs help anchor various spaces in an open room.
