For almost a year, our hand-beaded Glamour Pillows have been one of the most popular collections in our stores. Each is incredibly luxurious and full of glitz and glamour. The varying patterns on a more neutral palette lend particularly well to mixing and matching. It’s no surprise they fly off our store floors! In response to their overwhelming popularity, we wanted to share the story of how they came to be, which we feel is truly amazing.
It all started in India, where our designers go for textile inspiration. In the markets and bazaars, and on the streets, they kept seeing fantastic saris hand-beaded in a traditional Zardozi pattern. The Zardozi pattern is full of color and detail, combining everything from hand-beaded scrollwork to floral motifs and geometric designs.
Captivated by those saris, our designers decided to speak with an artisan in the area to find out more. They were told that this intricate beadwork could only be achieved by hand—a very labor intensive process. The end result is a luxurious sari that is saved for landmark occasions, like weddings and birthdays.
Here, in the studio, our designers tweaked the design for our pillow collections, adding muted hues, natural background textiles and on-trend patterns like chevron and Art Deco geometry. Samples were shipped back and forth between us and our artisan—across the ocean again and again—until we got it right.
When we introduced the pillows late 2012 in stores and at www.arhaus.com, we began to notice the hand-beaded trend in couture and in the layering of chains and jewelry. Perfect timing!
Inside, the pillows are created from the softest down inserts, so they’re stylish and comfortable.
Because these pillows are created by hand, we have limited stock of each design, and once they’re gone, they’re gone for good! Come in to a store today and take one home with you!
